The Creative Curriculum for Preschool Overview

The School District of Milton utilizes The Creative Curriculum for Preschool program. Creative Curriculum is based on 38 objectives for development and learning, which are aligned with the Early Learning Framework. It presents knowledge-building volumes and daily practice resources that can offer individualized instruction to help teachers meet the needs of all learners. It offers daily opportunities for observation, helping teachers and administration clearly see the strong relationship between curriculum and assessment. Creative Curriculum offers complete support for working with English language learners, advanced learners and learners with disabilities, including detailed guidance that helps to build teachers’ knowledge about best practice.

The Creative Curriculum Framework

The Creative Curriculum includes five key volumes: The Foundation, Interest Areas, Literacy, Mathematics, and Objectives for Development and Learning.

The Foundation presents the theory and research behind the curriculum, helps teachers translate them into practice, and explains the five components of teaching preschool children effectively. Interest Areas discusses the ten classroom interest areas and the outdoors, suggesting appropriate materials and presenting teachers with ways to promote children’s development and learning. Literacy gives teachers the latest research-based strategies for supporting early literacy learning, helping them to teach intentionally and incorporate language and literacy learning into everyday classroom experiences. Mathematics explains the components and process skills of mathematics and provides teachers with strategies for promoting mathematics learning throughout the day. Objectives for Development and Learning presents the 38 objectives for development and learning; user-friendly, color-coded development progressions that show widely-help expectations for children; and strategies to help every child progress.
