Nutrition Team Information

The Nutrition Team offers breakfast and lunch daily when school is in session at all eight of our district schools, including MECAS. Menus are planned in accordance with the School Breakfast Program (SBP) and National School Lunch Program (NSLP) guidelines developed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Menus are tailored to meet the needs of students based on age/grade level and target specific calorie ranges and nutrients to enhance learning and to promote healthy growth and development of all students. There are daily and weekly targets for protein, whole-grain rich sources of breads, cereals and pastas, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy.

Cafe Refuel

Does your high school student complain that they’re tired and hungry after a full day of school? Are they involved in sports or other school-related activities that keep them at school after-hours? Is it a challenge to find quality snacks to send with them that will sustain them through those evening activities?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, we have a solution for you…

Cafe Refuel will provide access to a variety of food, snack and beverage options for students involved in after-school activities on the MHS campus. Just as nutrition is important for fueling learning in the classroom, it is important that students, particularly student athletes, eat and hydrate at regular intervals to receive full benefit from practice sessions and maximize performance during competition.

Cafe Refuel will be located in the Upper Cafeteria and will be open daily Monday through Friday (when school is in session) from 2:55 until 3:15.

Student Nutrition & Wellness

The School District of Milton is dedicated to providing high quality meals to our students. Our meals meet all federally-mandated nutrition standards. Research indicates that proper nutrition is vital to optimizing student learning.

However, it’s not enough to simply provide high quality meals. It is just as important for students to have the opportunity to learn how nutrition and other healthy habits impact overall wellbeing. Incorporating nutrition education and physical activity into the classroom and the overall school environment are necessary to support and reinforce student wellness.

The School District of Milton’s School Wellness Policy recognizes and addresses the need for deliberate efforts toward improving the health of our students. Our current policy can be viewed by accessing the provided link:

Our Wellness Policy is reviewed annually and updated on an ongoing basis by our District Wellness Committee. The committee consists of a variety of stakeholders from building administrators, board members, teachers, students, food service leadership and parents.
