Vision for Grades 9-12 Curriculum And Instruction
The School District of Milton administration, teachers and staff are dedicated to providing all students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills in core academic, elective and developmental areas throughout their high school years. The district recognizes the tremendous progress, growth, achievement and exploration that students obtain throughout the high school years and is dedicated to helping all students meet appropriate levels of mastery and proficiency within the Common Core State Standards and Wisconsin Model Academic Standards provided for each grade level and subject. Additionally, Milton High School administration and staff are dedicated to providing students with knowledge and skills to build their college and career readiness supporting their post-secondary plans. The School District of Milton offers many supplementary programs and learning supports to ensure students are identified for and receive continued intervention (specifically in literacy and mathematics).
Core Academic Areas
The School District of Milton has designed high school level English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies curriculum and instruction to provide both a variety of opportunities to increase their knowledge and skills in the core academic areas, but more importantly, provide a strong foundational basis to build their college and career readiness. English courses provide students with higher level reading, writing, speaking and listening instruction, while offering students a chance to explore specific areas in further depth. Mathematics courses continue through the Big Ideas Math curriculum scope and sequence, while extending into both college and work-related applied mathematics. Science courses provides students with continued development in life, earth and physical science through the exploration of courses within focused content areas (including cross-walked courses with Agriculture). Social Studies courses provide students with opportunities to explore social sciences in more depth including in the topic areas of geography, world history, U.S. history, psychology, government and current events.
Students are assessed through classroom formative and summative assessments, STAR Reading and STAR Math, and state standardized assessments including the ACT Aspire (Grades 9-10), Wisconsin Forward Exam (Gr. 10 Social Studies), ACT and ACT WorkKeys.
Students may receive additional support (remedial or extension) through Response to Intervention (Reading and Math), the Learning Center (Math Lab and Writing Lab), the Support for Success Peer Tutoring Program, EL, and PRISM/Advanced Placement programming.
Electives Curriculum
The School District of Milton provides students with additional instruction in key areas of development and interest including: art, music, physical education, health, world language, career and tech education (agriculture, business education, family and consumer education and tech education), social development, library media/digitial citizenship, and technology. High school electives instruction provides students with opportunities to explore standards outside the core academic areas, while preparing students for specialized success in their post-secondary college and/or career plans.
