State Initiatives
Accountability and Assessment
The School District of Milton follows Wisconsin’s comprehensive accountability system, which measures four key priority areas: Student Achievement, Student Growth, Closing Gaps and On-Track to Graduation and Post-Secondary Readiness. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) assigns each school district and its individual schools School Report Cards that indicate scores based on student test results. In addition to the key priority areas, schools and districts are evaluated for student engagement indicators that include test participation, absenteeism and drop-out rates. Schools and districts must be within the acceptable ranges to not receive deductions in their overall School Report Card score.
The Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS) is a comprehensive statewide program that assesses students in Grades 3-11 using a variety of nationally-normed and standardized assessments. These assessments include the Wisconsin Forward Exam, the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM), the ACT Aspire, the ACT, and the ACT WorkKeys. Students in PreK are also assessed using the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS). English Language Learners receive an additional assessment – the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 exam. For more information on the details of these assessments, please click on the Student Learning/Assessment link.
Educator Effectiveness
The Wisconsin Educator Effectiveness System provides professionally certified staff with a performance-based evaluation that directly addresses improved student learning through designated student learning outcomes and supports continuous professional development through professional practice goals. Educator Effectiveness is built on Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching measuring four key areas: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities. The School District of Milton utilizes the Educator Effectiveness System for professional growth, employing a separate appraisal evaluation to evaluate key performance indicators.
WI Act 55 Notice
Pursuant to 2015 Wisconsin Act 55, the School District of Milton is required to notify parents and guardians of both the district’s school accountability report card, as well as the educational options available to children who reside in the school district. 2015 Act 20 prohibits the DPI from issuing accountability reports based on data from the 2014-2015 school year, therefore the most recent accountability reports are the 2013-2014 school year reports.
WI Act 86 Notice
Wisconsin Act 86, Wisconsin’s Informational Guidebook on Dyslexia and Related Conditions was created through collaboration between an advisory committee created by Act 86 and the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Feedback was solicited from advisory committee members at several points in the drafting process. In addition, the guidebook was available for 30 days of public comment. Per Act 86, the informational guidebook discusses screening, instruction and intervention, and resources that can support improved learning for school-aged individuals with characteristics of dyslexia. The audience for the information is broad and includes–but is not limited to–parents and families, educators, interventionists or reading teachers, and educational leaders.
