Milton High School Students Will Resume In-Person Instruction Next Week
Milton, Wisconsin — After thoroughly reviewing the available numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases and quarantines, the School District of Milton plans to resume in-person, cohort instruction at Milton High School on Monday, November 16, 2020.
The district greatly appreciates the students’ efforts to discourage the spread of COVID-19 at Milton High School. To allow for continued onsite instruction and activities, the district wants to remind all students and families of the importance of continuing to adhere to the county recommended guidance to wear appropriate face coverings and maintain social distancing inside and outside of the regular school day.
Students will be expected to continue their daily self-screening prior to departing for school. The primary symptoms of COVID-19 include shortness of breath, coughing, and fever or chills. Other symptoms include congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, abdominal pain, body aches, and loss of taste or smell.
If any student, or any of their family members, are experiencing these symptoms, the district asks that the student please remain home and call a healthcare provider for evaluation. If a student has been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or anyone who is displaying the above mentioned symptoms of COVID-19, he or she must remain home. If a student, or their family, has been directed to isolate or quarantine by a medical professional, the student must remain home for the duration of the isolation or quarantine period.
Students unable to attend next week are asked to contact the high school immediately at 608-868-9340.
The School District of Milton holds the health and safety of our students as our highest priority. The district will continue to monitor the situation, and if necessary transition to a virtual learning model.
Milton High School Will Transition To Virual Learning October 30, 2020
The School District of Milton has been working alongside the Rock County Public Health Department to actively monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our area. Given the rise in cases at Milton High School, and based upon the guidance from the county, the school district has decided to switch to a fully virtual learning model for all Milton High School students. This will take effect Friday, October 30.
Friday, October 30 will be a non-instructional day for all Milton High School students while our educators prepare for the transition. Fully virtual instruction will begin for all Milton High School students Monday, November 2 and will continue through at least November 13, 2020. At that time, the district will evaluate returning to in-person, cohort instruction if active cases have significantly decreased.
The closure affects all athletic practices and competitions. Extracurricular activities are cancelled unless they are able to transition to a fully virtual format.
This transition to virtual will only impact Milton High School students.
All other schools within the School District of Milton have not seen a significant increase in reported positive cases of COVID-19 and as such will continue with regular instruction.
Breakfast and lunch for Milton High School students will be available for pick up at Milton High School on all virtual days, beginning on Friday, October 30. More details on breakfast and lunch pick up will be shared with families directly later today.
The virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be spread via contaminated air droplets from coughing, sneezing and even talking by an infected person. To control the spread of COVID-19 in our community, the district asks that our community members please remember the following:
What you and your immediate family do outside of school hours will impact the School District of Milton.
The consistent use of appropriate face coverings helps to limit the spread of the virus.
Maintain 6 feet of physical distance between yourself and those around you.
Avoid gatherings where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
Wash your hands regularly, using soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
Common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, fatigue and coughing. Some people with COVID-19 experience additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you or your child are experiencing any of these symptoms, we strongly encourage you to discuss your condition with your healthcare provider.

MMS AVID Program's Unique Fundraiser Exceeds All Expectations
$7005 raised to support college and career readiness opportunities for students
(Milton, Wisconsin) – Thanks to all who supported Milton Middle School’s first-ever Mattress Sale Fundraiser on August 16, $7005 was raised to be used toward the AVID program’s college and career readiness programming and opportunities for students.
AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a college and career readiness system that emphasizes skill-building in the areas of writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. The AVID team partnered with Madison-based Custom Fundraising Solutions (CFS) to present the unique event to the public.
In a check presentation ceremony at Milton Middle School on Wednesday, August 26, Susan Bastida, surprised the AVID team with the total results.
As evidenced by the funds raised, the novelty of the fundraiser certainly did not deter shoppers. Although no official attendance was taken at the door, Milton Middle School Principal Tara Czerwinski noted there were consistently 20 or so shoppers in the school at any given moment during the six and a half hour sale.
With 44 mattresses sold during the one-day event, the AVID team shattered their initial fundraising goals.
‘We want to thank everyone for supporting our sale by advertising or shopping,” said Czerwinski. “We’re grateful to have raised money to provide opportunities for our students.”
Milton School Board Places “Renewal” Referendum Question on November Ballot
If passed by voters, referendum renews an expiring referendum; No expected year over year increase in the tax levy specifically related to renewing the operational
MILTON, Wis. – The School District of Milton Board of Education voted on Monday night to place a referendum question on the November 3 ballot to replace a referendum that voters passed in 2016 and that is set to expire. If passed by voters in November, the referendum would allow the school board to continue exceeding the state-imposed revenue limits by $2.5 million per year for the next five years. Because the November referendum renews a 2016 referendum, There will be no year over year increase in the tax levy specifically related to renewing the operational referendum.
“The board worked to find solutions that are fiscally responsible and that enable us to maintain and grow programs and services for students,” said Joe Martin, School Board President. “Our top priority is to continue our legacy of delivering a high-quality educational experience to our students.”
The board worked to find a solution that provides Milton students with the resources they need while keeping local property taxes as low as possible. If the board does not receive approval from voters for a replacement referendum in 2020, the revenue limit authority provided by the 2016 referendum will be lost. This would lead to cuts in programs and services that would impact students and their learning.
Because of the way in which schools districts in Wisconsin are funded and the way in which the School District of Milton fits into the state funding plan, local taxpayers are only responsible for a portion of the $2.5 million referendum. Instead, because the district has received increased state aid, the local cost for the $2.5 million revenue limit increase was approximately $1 million dollars. This is expected to remain the same moving forward.
“As the board considered the needs of the district in light of the pandemic and the very difficult economy, we wanted to provide voters with a referendum solution that provides great value and allows us to continue the great tradition of the School District of Milton.” said Martin. “We believe that by simply renewing and not increasing the expiring 2016 referendum, we can do exactly that.”

As we inch closer to the start of the academic year, the School District of Milton is working tirelessly to provide students and families with an exceptional educational experience that holds the safety, health, and wellness of our students, staff and our greater community at the highest priority. Hand-in-hand with instruction, education-based athletics and extracurricular activities are a direct extension of the classroom and are an integral part of our students’ educational experience.
Unfortunately, at noon today the Badger Conference will officially announce the cancellation of the conference fall athletic season in its entirety. This does not necessarily mean that there will be no WIAA athletics offered this fall at Milton High School. At this point, no official determination has been made by the School District of Milton in regards to fall sports. Moving forward, we will continue to explore every avenue and consider every contingency in offering high quality and safe extracurricular programming for the 2020-2021 school year. Ultimately, the final determination for fall athletics will be made by the Board of Education at the August 10th school board meeting. Until that time, the athletic and activities department will work hard to best navigate the ever-changing landscape of Covid-19 to best serve students, staff, and the community.
Below, you will find the link to the official press release by the Badger Conference.
