My name is Dan Thies and I am the School Counselor for MHS students with the last names P-Z. I also assist the students in our alternative programs, MECAS, and Next Step. As the longest serving veteran of our Student Services team, I have been a counselor at MHS since 2002-03. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Houghton College, NY with a double major in Psychology and History. After teaching English abroad for a few years, I furthered my education and earned a Master’s of Science in Counseling Psychology from UW-Madison. Some of my other roles at MHS are advising our cultural exchange students and also the MHS Student Council. Building positive relationships, offering social and emotional support, exploring academic and future goals are all at the top of my list when serving students and families. I have coached high school and youth sports (tennis, basketball and baseball) for many years and I still attempt to play some of them in my free time. I enjoy traveling with my family, fishing, and playing cards too. I feel incredibly blessed to have the privilege of working with the wonderful staff and students of MHS.

Phone Number: 608-868-9560
My name is Allison Kerkman, and I’m the School Psychologist for Milton High School. I originally graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in special education from Winona State University. While I taught middle school special education for 14 years, I attained my Master’s in Differentiated Instruction from Graceland University. I then transitioned to a Program Support Teacher position while continuing my education and graduating with a Master’s of Science in Education and an Educational Specialist degree from Alverno College. Last year I became certified in LGBTQ+ Allyship through Lakeland University. As a school psychologist, I help students and staff to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all. I also enjoy working with students and families with disabilities and ensuring they receive all the support and community they need to be successful. Throughout my career, I have coached several sports, backstage managed school musicals, and advised clubs. I love traveling, reading, completing sudoku, spending quality time with friends and family, and adding indoor houseplants to my home. I look forward to developing long-lasting relationships in the district and community.
Verlene Orr
School Social Worker
Email Address:

Phone Number: 608-868-9560
Thanks for visiting our webpage! I am the School Social Worker who works with grades 7-12 in the School District of Milton. I started working for the School District of Milton in January of 2015 as the District’s very first social worker. Prior to working in Milton, I worked for the School District of Janesville and the Rock County Human Services Department. As a School Social Worker, there are many reasons that I might be involved with a student or family. Some of those reasons include mental health challenges, food insecurities at home, school attendance issues, homelessness, foster care situations, substance use issues and child abuse/neglect issues. One of my greatest parts of my job is helping students and families determine what their specific unique needs are and then finding or creating school or community resources to help meet those needs. Hopefully, you will find good information on this website, but if you still have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I’d love to talk with you.

I enjoy working with students to obtain employment, to take college courses in high school, and to create an overall career plan for life after high school. I also enjoy working with local organizations, like the Milton Chamber of Commerce, to connect our schools/students to our local businesses. In my spare time, I like to cheer on the Milwaukee Brewers, travel and enjoy the outdoors with my family.
