Director of Student Services
Student services are made up of four types of professions: Nurse, counselor, school psychologist and social worker. These professionals work with the District's administrative team to support students to ensure academic, career, personal and social success. They also work to remove barriers to learning. The School District of Milton employs one school nurse, seven counselors, five psychologists and one social worker. Special education is a term used to describe services provided to students who qualify in at least one of the thirteen federally (Individual With Disabilities Education Act).
Professional Background
I have been privileged to be a part of the School District of Milton, serving students and families as the Director of Student Services since 2012. I come from a family of educators. I have fond memories of listening to my mother and grandmother sharing stories of inspiring children. Two of my three children are educators who work with students with exceptional needs. Our holidays tend to become brainstorming sessions – pure delight for me.
I have been in education for over 30 years. I was initially trained as an elementary teacher and worked for three years as a third-grade teacher, but special education kept calling me. While continuing to teach, I went back to school for my Masters in Special Education. Since those first three years, I have taught at all levels (elementary, middle and secondary) as well as worked for the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater as an adjunct professor. I have worked in the private, residential and public settings.
I believe that every child has something to contribute to making the world a better place. It is my passion to find ways to provide Opportunities, encourage Achievement so that every child feels part of our Community as well as being prepared to be part of the greater Community. I am proud to be associated with a team of special educators and student service professionals who work with general education and administration to support all of our students.
