Welcome to the School District of Milton! It is my pleasure to serve the students, staff, parents, and community members, which make it what it is today, for the remainder of the 2012-2013 school year. I am so glad that you are visiting our website. This website has been developed with our parents and community in mind. We are excited about having you learn more about our school district. For parents, I hope this website will help you stay connected with your child’s education. I believe that informed parents and community members are our greatest allies as we strive to improve academic achievement for every student in the classroom. As our mission statement stresses, an active partnership with families and the community will prepare our students for academic achievement and lifetime success – learning for a lifetime!
Many opportunities exist for you to take an active role in public education. Working in classrooms, chaperoning field trips, participating in parents’ group meetings and activities, and communicating electronically with staff through Skyward and the websites to monitor progress, classroom activities/assignments, and gaining access to helpful resources. These are just a few examples of how we all can work together to have a positive impact in ensuring that all our students meet or exceed the new state standards.
Thank you for visiting our site. Please bookmark it for future access to updated information regarding the district, schools, and various announcements.
The School District of Milton has been noted for its strong, positive relationships with parents and the community by making it a district noted for quality, with an ongoing commitment to excellence. Our future demands it and our children deserve it.

It has been a pleasure serving the students, staff, and families in the School District of Milton for the past ten years. As the Director of Instruction, I have developed an appreciation for the qualities and strengths of the Milton community. I have also discovered the talented educators that exist in our classrooms and buildings.
Our district curriculum is the foundation on which we build a successful educational experience for each child. The instruction that evolves from this becomes the conduit for true learning to occur. Milton teachers pride themselves on engaging students in this learning process. The magic of learning that occurs on a daily basis is the result of the collective commitment, dedication, and care that Milton educators provide.
Monitoring and responding to regular assessment data allows us to be responsive to the individual needs of our students, families, and community. Each child that enters our classrooms represents the future; we assume a shared responsibility for preparing that child to be successful in the 21st Century.
We are proud of the strong, diverse, and well-balanced programming that we provide in Milton and welcome you to learn more about our offerings. It truly does take a community to raise a child, and we welcome you to be a partner in our educational community.
Sincerely,
Randy Bartels, Director of Instruction

I went into the field of education because I heard the joy in my grandmother's voice talking about her experiences as a teacher. I now listen to my daughter talk of the joy she is experiencing as a middle school teacher of students with behavioral challenges. This field is so much more than a career for me. There is no greater feeling than when a student makes progress. There is a real joy associated with seeing a former student making a difference in the world. That joy is shared with all who had the opportunity to work with and for that student. It takes a team. I am excited about being part of the Milton team.
My education career has been diverse. I received my undergraduate elementary education and special education license through Silver Lake College and my masters in special education from Kansas University. I taught special education at the elementary, middle and high school levels working with students with learning, cognitive and emotional/behavioral disabilities for over 20 years. In addition, for the last 10 years I have worked for the University of Whitewater as an adjunct lecturer in the special education department. Recently I served as Delavan-Darien’s director of pupil services.
Very little in life stays the same. Education is no different. As laws and regulation changes, as more research is completed, the classroom needs to change as well. We have to adjust to the children who walk in the door and to the environment that surrounds them when they leave. This is a challenge. However with the right support, teachers can make this transition as quickly as the students do.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions, concerns or comments.
